Did you know that the Earth supports more than 2 million species of fungi, a family comprising yeasts, molds, and mushrooms?
How about the fact that we share over 40% of DNA with mushrooms? According to the American mushroom guru Paul Stamets, "We are more closely related to fungi than any other kingdom.” Mushrooms are fascinating!
Modern scientists have identified several dozen mushrooms that have unique combinations of constituents and special talents that improve our health on many levels. There is still much that we can learn about this mysterious kingdom, but we don’t have to wait for scientists to crack the code. In Asia, mushrooms such as Reishi, Turkey tail and Chaga have been recorded for thousands of years for their system-improving, holistic benefits, and in essence we are rediscovering what our ancestors knew long ago.
Of special interest is that mushrooms offer unparalleled support for our immune system. This is particularly important since we live in a time when 1 in 3 gets cancer, autoimmune conditions and allergies are on the rise, and we are constantly encountering new and more aggressive viruses and bacteria - the infamous SuperBugs. Even though our immune system is equipped with a dynamic arsenal of weapons against bacteria, viruses and parasites, it is pretty weak compared to other animals’, and we do require some nutritional and biochemical support to ensure that we are well protected.
Hardly anything is more powerful than a special class of fungi called Medicinal Mushrooms for strengthening our defense systems. These mysterious forest inhabitants are packed with compounds that directly feed and support our immune system, protecting our health from cold and flu viruses, pollution assault, stress, toxic food and water, as well as age-related diseases. Increasingly, Medicinal Mushrooms are used to help fight cancer and mitigate the adverse effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
In this class we will:
- Discuss innovative ways to upgrade our immune system using medicinal mushrooms
- Learn to choose mushrooms and mushroom products to best support your unique needs
- Explore ways to incorporate medicinal mushrooms into your core health regimen
